New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, has revealed she is expecting her first child.

PM Jacinda said, the pregnancy was a “fantastic surprise” and she is due to give birth in June.

“Clarke and I are really excited that in June our team will expand from two to three, and that we’ll be joining the many parents out there who wear two hats,” she said in a Facebook post.

Thirty-seven year old, Jacinda Ardern, is now set to be the second elected world leader to give birth while in office – and the first to do so in almost 30 years.

In 1990, Benazir Bhutto gave birth to a daughter while serving as Pakistan’s Prime Minister – in what was reported to be a first for an elected leader.
