Ceylon Electricity Board workers have temporarily halted their strike action which started today morning (January 18).
Wednesday, January 17: The CEB workers launched a demonstration. They protested on what they called “an illegal salary increment” which was granted only to CEB engineers in November 2014.
During the protest, the workers detained the CEB Chairman, demanding a solution to this problem.
The Chairman was confined to his office until about 9 PM last night, when officers of the Police Special Task Force and Riot Police took steps to rescue him.
Thursday, January 18 (Today): CEB workers launched the strike action, claiming to have been assaulted by police during yesterday’s incident.
The demonstrators held a protest march to the Prime Minister’s Office and submitted a letter.
