The National Elections Commission says, strict action will be taken against state sector officials who misuse their positions and responsibilities for political propaganda.
Chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya, said the general public could inform the Elections Commission if they have any information regarding such officials.
The Commission points out, state sector officials who do not possess political rights are not allowed to be engaged in any kind of propaganda activities of political parties or candidates. Further, he emphasised that they cannot misuse their powers to use state resources for political activities.
According to a communique issued by the Elections Commission, legal action could be taken against such individuals under the Elections Ordinance, Administrative Circulars, Establishments Code and certain provisions of the Constitution.
