Speaker Karu Jayasuriya spoke his heart out on the present state of politics in Sri Lanka yesterday, January 05. The speaker said that their hope is to establish a new home for independent commissions, and achieve good governance with transparency, at the end of the day.
“Although we cannot establish a five-star democracy we will establish the democracy seen in developed countries. There is a massive revolution as a result of the Right to Information Act,” said Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
He stated that the COPE and COPA are strongly functioning in Parliament. And that only two weeks ago they held discussions with the Finance Minister and Secretary to the Treasuries regarding preventing the wastage of money.
“Very recently the Australian Prime Minister was charged a fine for not wearing a life jacket. Some time ago, a ministerial position was lost due to buying a bottle of wine. Those are the kind if things that happen in countries where the correct democracy is established”, observed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya
