Chief Opposition whip and Leader of the JVP, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, addressing the adjournment debate in parliament today, called for the project on the Central Expressway to be halted immediately, and that a parliamentary select committee be appointed to probe the project.
While noting that there were many irregularities in the tender process, and that it was conducted with a number of hidden agendas, Anura Kumara Dissanayake also noted that once completed, the Central Expressway would cost in excess of Rs. 250 billion, a far cry from the estimated Rs. 135 billion.
Meanwhile, the COPE report on fifteen state-owned enterprises were presented to parliament today, by its Chairman MP Sunil Handunnetti.
