Ministers Malik Samarawickrama and Kabir Hashim, making a statement before the Commission, noted that a breakfast meeting had been held.on the day prior to the impugned bond issuance, where the requirement for Rs.18 billion was discussed.
Minister Kabir Hashim had said it was discussed that Rs. 3 billion had been available at the Ministry of Highways and that the rest of the amount was required.
The two ministers said Ravi Karunanayake, officials of the CBSL and treasury had been present, along with the two of them.They said that nothing pertaining to the Central Bank treasury bond issuance was discussed during the breakfast meeting.
They further said, upon being questioned, that no funds have been received by Arjun Aloysius.
Ministers Kabir Hashim and Malik Samarawickrama arrives at the Bond Commission.
Minister of Public Enterprises Development, Kabir Hashim and Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrama are due to appear before the Presidential Commission Inquiring into the Issuance of Bonds.
Summons were issued on the ministers yesterday.
The commission said the two ministers were summoned to record statements regarding the financial irregularities in the issuance of bonds.
The commission will convene at 10 this morning. (October 11, 2017)
