Sri Lanka’s second heart transplant recipient dies

According to the Director of the Kandy Teaching Hospital, Dr. Saman Ratnayake, the nineteen-year-old girl who was the recipient of Sri Lanka’s second heart transplant has died three days following the surgery, due to an allergic reaction.

Nineteen-year-old Sachini Sewwandi underwent  heart transplant surgery on September 27. According to the director of the Kandy General Hospital, Dr. Saman Ratnayake, the cause of death may be attributed to the high pressure levels in her left lung.

He also added that the body of the recipient has been subjected for further examination. The final rites for  Sachini Sewwandi is scheduled to take place in Aluthgama on Wednesday.
