A programme to insure 4.5 million school students will commence today. According to the Ministry of Education the inauguration ceremony of this scheme is set to take place at the Temple Trees this morning under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Under this scheme, a student obtaining a Rs.200,000 insurance will be able to receive benefits worth Rs.500,000.
Minister of Education , Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that all school-going children within the ages of 5 to 19 receiving an education from a Privena, international or private educational institution will be eligible to receive this insurance.
