The Central Environmental Authority says steps are being taken to provide shops with eco-friendly substitutes for polythene, before September 01.
Deputy Director of the Authority, Upali Indraratne, said the substitutes for polythene are being produced with the help of the local manufacturers, using raw material imported from United States, Germany and other European countries.
He added that discussions in this regard are currently underway with eleven companies, at present.
