The Colombo Additional Magistrate is to issue a ruling on November 17, whether or not to continue with the case on Avant Garde, after considering the facts by both the defence and complainant.
The Bribery Commission filed a case against eight people including former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa for giving permission to Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd to operate a floating armoury, and causing Rs. 11.4 billion in losses to the government.
However, attorneys for the suspects filed submission in court on Friday, that the case cannot be taken forward under the charges filed against the suspects.
However, the Bribery Commission did not make any submissions.
The Additional Magistrate ordered for submission to be made before 03:30 on Friday. Thereby, the Attorney General”s Department appearing for the Bribery Commission filed submission in court.
