The Prisons Department has taken steps to provide a bullet-proof bus to transport prison inmates who are charged with serious offences.

The bus is a creation of the Assistant Superintendent of Prisons in Kegalle – R. W. U. D. M. Samprayo.

The construction of the vehicle costs Rs. 0.7 million.

The Prisons Department notes that a substantial amount would be spent if the same vehicle was to be imported.

Moreover, the Minister of Prisons Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D. M. Swaminathan upon inspection of the bus, added that steps would be taken to provide a bullet-proof bus in the near future to each of the prisons located across the country.
