The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested eight Indian fishermen who violated the Sri Lankan maritime border near the Analathivu Island off the coast of Jaffna .
Navy Media Spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Chaminda Walakuluge said that the vessel they arrived in was also taken into custody.
He added that eight other fishermen and a vessel were also taken into custody off the coast of Talaimannar.
He further noted that the arrested fishermen are to be handed over to the Kankasanthurai Fisheries Directorate for further investigations.
During the course of this year, the Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 26 Indian fishermen who were allegedly poaching within the Sri Lankan maritime border.
