The Constitutional Council has recommended Supreme Court Judge Priyasad Depp to be appointed as the new Chief Justice.

When News1st made inquiries from Deputy Speaker of the House Thilanga Sumathipala, he confirmed this move.

The President is scheduled to appoint the new Chief Justice upon recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

Chief Justice K. Sri Pavan is due to retire today.
