The Disaster Management Centre says that close to 700,000 people have been affected by the prevailing drought.
Assistant Director of the Centre Pradeep Kodippili said, more than 100,000 people from the Kalutara District have been severely inconvenienced owing to the contamination of drinking water.
Issuing a statement, the Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre said that 695,074 people have been affected by the drought with the Eastern Province being the worst affected.
Thirteen districts across the country have been affected due to dry weather conditions. Experts say the country may be facing the worst drought in decades.
