The Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply says that plans have not been drawn up to privatise any project of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.
Secretary to the Ministry, Nimal Hettiarachchi however said that initial steps have been taken to commence a water filtering system in collaboration with the private sector.
General Secretary of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board Workers Union, Engineer Upali Ratnayake, said that steps have been taken by the government to purchase water from the private sector and issue it to the general public.
Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board branch of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya, D.D.A. Wijeyadasa said that the allegations levelled by Upali Rathnayake cannot be accepted.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry, Nimal Hettiarachchi, said that water tariffs will not be increased under any circumstance.
