The National Dengue Control Unit says that the gazette with regard to the Mosquito Breeding Prevention Act will be issued expeditiously.

Consultant Community Physician at the Unit, Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera, said that under the gazette, the minimum fine of Rs.1000 rupees for maintaining environments conducive for mosquito breeding will be increased to Rs.5000.

She further noted that Dengue Eradication Programmes are currently underway in the Western Province, the districts of Galle and Matara and the town of Kalmunai, where the spread of Dengue is on the rise.
