Authorities say the Katunayake airport will be closed for eight hours – from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – daily, owing to maintenance work on the runway.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation requests those travelling overseas to arrive at the airport five hours prior to their scheduled departure time.

Deputy Minister Ashok Abeysinghe said that four Sri Lankan Airlines flights  will be operated per week from the Mattala airport during this period.

Meanwhile, flights scheduled to depart from the Katunayake airport to Beijing and Shanghai at 7:25 a.m. and 7:35 a.m. today January 06, were transferred to the Mattala airport to avoid delays.

Owing to renovations at the BIA, vehicles travelling along the Katunayake expressway to the Katunayake airport are required to travel to Negombo instead.

Police said that vehicles travelling from Minuwangoda to Colombo are required to travel from Ekala to Ja-Ela.

While, vehicles travelling from Minuwangoda are required to turn left at the Govinna junction and travel through the Malgas junction, Seeduwa and Averiyawatta to Colombo.
