Former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake has passed away at the age of 83. Late Ratnasiri Wickremanayake was born on May 5, 1933.

He passed away in the afternoon, while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

Ratnasiri Wickremanayake entered Parliament under the Lanka Sama Samaja Party Ticket in 1960 switched to the Sri Lank Freedom Party in 1962.

He held the portfolios of Deputy Minister Justice and then became the Minister of Justice and later held the positions of Minister of Plantation Industries and Public Administration.

His political career took another turn from the Western Provincial Council.

He served as Prime Minister under Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He was later appointed as the Senior Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and served as a Senior Adviser to President Maithripala Sirisena.

President Sirisena has instructed that the funeral of the Late Ratnasiri Wickremanayake be carried out with full state honors.

The remains of the Late Prime Minister will be moved to the Parliamentary Complex at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Dec. 28).
