Sri Lanka Next: “A Blue-Green Era” conference and exhibition was held on the morning of Monday October 18, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The event was declared opened by President Sirisena.
The Sri Lanka Next exhibition and conference is being held at the BMICH.
Speaking at the event, President Sirisena said that in the present world every vocabulary and dictionary consists of two words that depict the duties and responsibilities of all and they are “sustainable development”.
“For SL, 2017 is the year for eradication of poverty”, said the president.
He went on to note, the 2017 budget has also given priority to eradicate poverty and that everyone in state institutions are aware that the respective plans will be enforced.
“In order to eradicate poverty, the government policy will see priority been given to sustainable development. That is our aim and vision as well”, said the president
He also said, the concepts of sustainable development and a “blue green era” were introduced in accordance with the UN charter on environment, climate change and the minimizing in global warming, while working under those frameworks we hope to build a more prosperous future.
Resident Coordinator for the United Nations in SL, Una McCauley donated a sum of 38.18 million US dollars from the green climate fund.
The president also presented over 80 green and environmental awards.
