Police opened fire on a van opposite the Trincomalee court on Thursday, October 13.
According to police, an officer who was on duty at the time had approached the van which was parked in close proximity to the Trincomalee Court House Junction, with the intention of questioning the driver.
However, upon seeing the police officer the driver had driven off without allegedly heeding police orders, resulting in the shooting.
Two injured individuals have been admitted to the Trincomalee General Hospital.
The van driver and the van have been taken into the custody of the Trincomalee Police.
