IGP Pujith Jayasundara, speaking at an event on October 11, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Police Public Relations Division at the Sambuddhaloka Viharaya, expressed his stance on misconduct of officers.
IGP Pujith Jayasundara said:
If a police officer engages in any illegal activity or acts in a manner which causes public distress and neglects his duty or fails to heed orders, then disciplinary action will be taken against the officer according to the code of conduct.
“However allegations should not be levelled at officers who discharge their duties or use minimal force when they have to”, he added.
When a journalist asked him what he has to say regarding the shooting in Athurugiriya he said, investigations are underway with regard to the incident.
“We are looking into the identity of the victim and we are investigating the OIC as well. The investigations will be fair and independent”, he said while speaking to the media.
