Project number 29 of the Gammedda 100-Day Initiative was declared open on Sunday. With the opening of the project, the people of Watamada, Thanamalwila became bearers of a multi-purpose community hall.
A sense of festivity was prevalent among the locals of the Watamada Village in Hambegamuwa, which falls under the purview of the Thanamalwila Divisional Secretariat.
Locals of these villages broke into celebration as the newly-constructed multi-purpose community hall was declared open on Sunday. The proceedings which were held under the auspices of Director of News1st Rinaz Mohammed, was also attended by members of News1st and state officials, as well as locals of villages surrounding Watamada.
The multi-purpose community hall which was constructed at a cost of one million rupees aims to serve 200 families in the area as a venue for their public affairs. The community hall consists of a children’s park, a library, a venue for a maternity and children’s clinic as well as a primary school.
A book -distributing and tree-planting programme was also implemented inline with the Gammadda 100-Day Initiative.
At the end of the days proceedings, members of the Gammedda Saviya Organisation and News1st took part in a friendly game of volleyball.
