Minister of Labour W.D.J. Seneviratne said, estate unions have agreed to pay a daily wage of Rs. 730 for all estate employees. Estate workers commenced a protest thirteen days ago demanding that their daily wage be increased to Rs. 1000.
The minister said that a consensus was reached following discussions between both parties.
He added that the agreement in this regard will be signed on October 14.
According to our News 1st correspondent, activities of many estates have been hampered owing to the protest and demonstrations were staged in a number of areas around the country, including Hatton, Ratnapura, Maskeliya and Matugama.
