Estate workers engaged in trade union action for a fourth day on Friday September 30.
The estate workers of Dickoya and Hatton engaged in a protest in the Hatton town, hampering vehicular movement, while another group protested at the Malliappuwa junction, also in Hatton.
Reason? – The estate workers charge that their discussions with the estate owners have failed and that steps have not been taken to provide a fair wage for them. The protesters are calling on officials to increase their daily wage to Rs. 1000.
The Parent and Students Association of the Malabe Private Medical College engaged in a programme to distribute handbills in the Matara main bus stand. The programme was also attended by the students who receive education at the private medical college.
