Estate workers engaged in trade union action for a fourth day on Friday September 30.

The estate workers of Dickoya and Hatton engaged in a protest in the Hatton town, hampering vehicular movement, while another group protested at the Malliappuwa junction, also in Hatton.

1The protest obstructed vehicular movement along the Hatton – Colombo road and the Hatton – Nuwara Eliya road.

Reason? – The estate workers charge that their discussions with the estate owners have failed and that steps have not been taken to provide a fair wage for them. The protesters are calling on officials to increase their daily wage to Rs. 1000.
