The All-island Inter-District School Transport Services Union says that steps have been taken to increase school transport fees by between five to ten percent.
Chairman of the Union, N.M.K. Harischandra Padmasiri said that this decision was taken based on a number of requests made by the unions members.
Padmasiri said that school transport fees had not been amended in the past four years.However, the National Movement to Protect Consumer Rights vehemently condemns the increase in school transport fees.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the All Island School Transport Association, Malshri de Silva stated that his Association had not taken any steps to increase the fees of school transport services.
