UNP’s 70th anniversary marked today

Secretary to the United National Party Kabir Hasheem said that the party convention to mark the 70th anniversary will be spearheaded by party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,  at 9 a.m. at the Campbell Grounds today, Saturday, September 11.

President Maithripala Sirisena will be the Chief Guest at the Convention, while the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Duminda Dissnayake, together with representatives of other political parties will participate in the event.

Foreign delegates of different countries are also scheduled to participate in today’s ceremony. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to present a proposal to the Working Committee detailing the plans that are afoot for the country in the future.

Police note that there may be heavy traffic congestion from 6 a.m.to 12 noon in Borella as a result of the UNP convention. Therefore, vehicular movement along roads close to Campbell Grounds will be restricted. Motorist are advised to use alternate routes in order to overcome heavy traffic congestion.
