Flight sergeant remanded over Ratmalana Air Force Base airman’s death

A Flight Sergeant at the Air Force Base in Ratmalana has been remanded until September 14, in connection with the death of another Flight Sergeant, whose body was discovered near the Air Force Base recently.

The suspect was produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate on Sunday the September 4.

The Flight Sergeant’s lifeless body was discovered at dawn on Saturday September 3, on a road in the vicinity of the Ratmalana Airport.

Police analysed footage from security cameras and discovered that the victim had been run over by a van driven by another Flight Sergeant attached to the same base.

When News 1st made inquiries, SLAF Spokesperson Group Captain Chandima De Alwis noted that the Flight Sergeant alleged to have been involved in the incident, was handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, a woman was attacked and killed in her own home in the Kombuwatawana area in Sethapola, Daluwa in the Puttalam District.

The attack had occurred last night and the body was discovered by a neighbour on Sunday morning, who had subsequently informed the police.

The suspect had also attacked the victim’s mother, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Puttalam Base Hospital.

The body of the 32-year-old victim, is currently lying at the mortuary of the Puttalam Base Hospital.

The police believe that the suspect may have fled the area.
