Former Defence Secretary, seven other suspects to appear in court over transactions surrounding Avant Garde

The eight suspects, including Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, were issued notices by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya on Thursday.

The notices were issued for the suspects to appear in court on September  30, over the case filed yesterday by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, regarding transactions surrounding Avant Garde.

Presenting their case to court yesterday, the Bribery Commission said the transactions have caused a loss of Rs.11.4 billion to the country.

Cases were filed against the Former Defence Secretary, Chairman of Avant Garde Nissanka Senadipathi and Former Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Damayanthi Jayaratne.

The Bribery Commission also filed cases against three former Navy Commanders. They are Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake, Retired Admiral Jayanath Colombage and Admiral Jayantha Perera.

Moreover, cases were also filed against Former CEO of Avant Garde Major General K.B. Egodawela and former chairman, Major General Palitha Fernando.
