A debate took place in parliament on Friday over a statement made by the Prime Minister over the resignation of a group employees of the treasury.
UPFA MPBandula Gunawardhena stated that employees of the Finance Ministry stepped down from positions in public enterprises and this is a direct impact to the operations of these institutes. In addition people who were granted honorary positions or individuals who were retained as specialists have also been summoned before the FCID and are being imprisoned
Prime Minister,Ranil Wickremesinghe, in reply, stated that those officials have stepped down from their posts and if they have stepped down there is no point putting them because they have provided reasons as to why they resigned. And they say they are scared. If they are scared there is no chance that they would go back.
“There was one official in the treasury who was in the SriLankan Airlines what has happened to SriLankan Airlines at present?” questioned the premier
He pointed out that another official was in the port and if there is someone who did something wrong, the law has to be implemented.
He added that the officers of the tourism board signed a deal with the trade union of the Welfare Society of the Tourism Board, stating that it was to boost internal tourism and if the welfare society of the parliament was told to write the history of the parliament they will say that money did not go there but instead it was used up for the Uva Provincial Council Elections.
PFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the treasury agent cannot control it because he is not the chairman there. And he has informed that he cannot work because he was called to be responsible and he says that those responsible need to be removed.
Ranil Wickremesinghe in reply to this charge noted that the resigned individuals did it on their own accord.
