Another project was launched today (August 26) under our initiative in Elpitiya, Galle. For over a year, the main culvert of the road leading to the Keenaketiya village in Ethkandura, Elpitiya had been in a dilapidated state. The danger of travelling along the culvert section of the road has frustrated the 150 families and everyone who travel in and out of the village.

The News 1st Gammadda crew which took over the responsibility of bringing hope to the people in the area, took measures to construct the culvert today.

“Contribute to this project in anyway you can. Someday you look back with pride and say that i helped renovate this road. I would like to say that News 1st will remain with the public at all times.”
Prasanna Athukorala
Leader – Project to renovate the Keenaketiya road

The construction work of the culvert commenced under the auspices of members of News 1st and state officials.

“We as state officials appreciate and are grateful to this initiative. Because they go to rural villages, identify the struggles of the people and render this service to the country by going beyond their limits as a media network.”
Ayesha Gunathilaka
Divisional Secretary – Divithura, Weliwitiya

The financial aid required to complete the project was officially handed over as the News 1st Team made a promise to the locals in the area to complete the construction activities within a period of one week.

People travelling on the Uthsana bridge in Galewela during their everyday life have been left in distress due to improper maintenance of the bridge….

We at News 1st could not remain silent over this aggravating issue and that is why the renovation of this bridge will commence tomorrow (August 27) under the Gammadda 100 days initiative.

“People have fallen in to this. We had to use ropes to bring them back up.”

“We send our children to school with fear because we don’t know when it will rain again. Because when it floods we have to struggle to bring back our children from school.”

The Gammadda 100 days initiative will continue to move forward, with the people, for the people….
