The eyewitness of the murder of senior journalist Lasantha Wickramathunga, failed to be present before courts on Thursday as well.

Moreover, the Criminal Investigations Department also informed the courts today that the weapon used for the murder is an imported gun that was manufactured for hunting purposes.

The case pertaining to the death of Journalist Lasantha Wickramathunga was taken up at the Mount Lavinia Magistrates court on Thursday. It was then that the Mount Lavinia Magistrate ordered the Chairman of the Credit Information Bureau to release the credit status of 41 members of the Army Intelligence Unit.

Moreover,  the judicial Medical Officer presented a report to courts which states that the eyewitness of the case is medically unfit to be present for an identification parade. Following this, Magistrate Mohammed Shabdeen decided to cancel the identification parade.

Meanwhile the Magistrate also ordered that the Sergeant Major of the Military Intelligence Unit who has been remanded in relation to the murder of Lasntha Wickramathunge to be presented at an identification parade tomorrow with regard to the attack on journalist Upali Thennakoon.

Mount Lavinia Magistrate Mohammed Shabdeen postponed the case until September 08 and ordered that the suspect be remanded till them.
