Kotahena deaths caused by poisoning – postmortem examinations confirm

The postmortem examinations of three members of the same family, whose remains were found in a house in Kotehena recently, were conducted on Saturday.

The postmortem examinations of the deceased were conducted by the Chief Specialist of the National hospital and Judicial Medical Officer Ajith Tennokon at the police mortuary on Saturday..

An open verdict concluded that the death was caused by poisoning. The remains were later handed over to the relatives.The magisterial inquiry into the deaths was conducted on Saturday afternoon while the deceased were identified as 46, 12 and nine-year-old residents of St. Benedict Mawatte in Kotehena.

Preliminary investigations revealed that this tragic incident had occurred when the mother had gone to school. The statement by the mother noted that they were residents of Wattala and had moved to Colombo to provide better educational facilities for their children.
