State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, during a media briefing organised on Sunday, said that it is the duty of party members to reject the programme aimed at breaking the party apart and move forward.

The minister expressed these views during a media briefing organised on Sunday.

State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena stated that there is hope that the path of SLFP will change towards a new path after the party convention, and it is the duty of all party members to reject the programme aimed at breaking the party apart – and move forward.

“Now they are regretting their actions ” said the state minister.

Chief Minister of the Southern Province, Shan Wijeyalal Silva stated that the Central Working Committee of the party has the authority to investigate into misconduct and reach a decision on the party membership. They have the power to suspend membership, he pointed out.

He added that the members of the party against whom a decision has been reached, will not be invited. Everyone else will be and this decision was reached by President Maithripala Sirisena and the central committee, said the chief minister.
