The JVP expressed the following views with regard to a committee being appointed to ascertain the total debt of the country.
JVP parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake noted that the Auditor General has the responsibility of calculating that value and the AG clearly issued a report on the debt of the country, after carrying out a thorough analysis.
He also said:
We saw the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister trying to object the said report in a threatening manner. If they are appointing a committee to look into the debt of the country, that can be seen as a step taken by the government to challenge the powers of the Auditor General, disregarding the audit act.
