Leader of the National Freedom Front MP Wimal Weerawansa, appeared before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Large Scale Corruption and Fraud (PRECIFAC) on Thursday, August 4.
The parliamentarian appeared before PRECIFAC to provide a statement over the alleged misuse of funds during his tenure as Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities.
The Leader of the NFF is alleged to have granted vehicles of the State Engineering Corporation along with fuel, to his private staff. He is also accused of providing houses and shop space belonging to the Housing Development Authority to family associates.
According to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry, the misuse of these funds have caused a loss of Rs. 100 million to the Government.
MP Weerawansa is not the only person to appear before PRECIFAC today, as former chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Priyath Bandu Wickrema also appeared before the Commission over an alleged financial misappropriation of Rs. 140 million.
