The Pada Yathra of the Joint Opposition reached Nittambuwa from Nelumdeniya, Warakpola on Saturday. However, Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was not in attendance for the march today.
While former President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not take part for the commencement of the march, the others reached the Nittambuwa town along the Kandy – Colombo road via Ambepussa, Warakapola and Pasyala.
The Pada Yathra is scheduled to travel from Nittambuwa to Kiribathgoda on Sunday.
Two vehicles which were allegedly brought for the Joint Opposition Pada Yathra were seized by police from the Piladuwa Viharaya in Warakapola. A van and a crane were were seized on the charge of illegally using state-owned vehicles.
The crane had been brought to lay floral tributes to the statue of Dharmasiri Ekanayake in the Warakapola town on Saturday.
Meanwhile, during an event to educate civil security officers in Kosgoda on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police received a phone call on this incident.
Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara stated that there has been a complaint – and if there anyone is obstructing your duties – arrest all of them.
“Keep them surrounded, not a single person leaves. Record all of it, take photographs and get all of it on video and take it back to the police station”, he ordered.
