Estate workers began a demonstration opposite the Sri Muthu Mari Amman Temple in Kotagala, Hatton against the failure to increase their wages.

The demonstrators first took part in religious observances at the temple. They engaged in the demonstration thereafter.

The Kotagala Traders Association supported the cause by closing their shops.
