Minister Navin Dissanayake claims that the absence of a global marketing campaign has affected Sri Lanka.
The minister expressed these views at an event titled Meet the Minister organised by the National Chamber of Commerce.
Minister of Plantations Navin Dissanayake noted:
That they have accumulated funds of nearly 40 Million USD from the exporters, that is sitting in our account, and have not been able to get our marketing campaign together.
He added :
‘This is also the case with the Tourist Board as well. We cannot be comfortable with the existing markets that we have because they are collapsing. We don’t know what the future is going to hold. We never thought our Middle Eastern markets will be affected. But they are. Because of ISIS and because of so many factors, because of Iran, Iraq…So many issues.”
The minister went onto note:
Its essential for us to have a safe buffer in new markets which in turn will take some time, a lot of effort and commitment.
