Portugal, in red kicked off the final against host nation France to be crowned the European champions

A national trophy has been ever elusive for the Iconic forward,Cristiano Ronaldo and all eyes were on the 31 year old. However he was taken away from fighting for Portugal, following a tackle by Payet in the 16th minute and was limping on until the 24th minute when he was taken off in a stretcher and was replaced by Ricardo Quaresma

With Nani taking over as captain,Portugal changed up their play to counter being overrun in the midfield but France were at the heels of the visitors and did not falter to cut them off as needed.

France were not looking to back down and by the end of the 1st half Portugal seemed to have found their footing, despite the loss of their skipper early on

The seconds half was a thriller and as the minutes increased so did the tensions between the two teams and by the 80th minute shots were fired and saves had to be made on both ends of the pitch.

The game ended goalless but was far from over with France’s substitute Gignac making an attempt 2 minutes in to injury time before the whistle blew to call the game to a stop.

France kicked off extra-time and the teams were about to be pushed to their limits with fatigue entering the game. The ball was pushed back and forth and even hit the bar when Gurreiro (Portugal) took a brilliant free-kick .

A minute later substitute Eder (Portugal) from 25 yards, smashed a fierce low shot that beat the diving Lloris to his right and twelve years after their heartbreak against Greece, they beat the hosts 1-0 in the final
