The OIC of the Special Crimes Divison of Mount Lavinia who was arrested for extorting bribes is scheduled to be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption stated last evening that the OIC was arrested while allegedly obtaining a bribe to the tune of Rs.20,000 from a woman.
The OIC had allegedly requested for a bribe of Rs.100,000 rupees from a woman promising to grant a favourable solution to a land issue, when a complaint was lodged in this regard.
While the suspect had allegedly already received Rs.5000 from the woman, the OIC was arrested yesterday while allegedly receiving a sum of Rs.20,000 in Dehiwela.
