The Crimes Investigation Unit of the Peliyagoda Division discovered seven tonnes of Basmathi Rice not suitable for consumption from a Cement Storage Facility.
According to the police, a racket has been launched from this location to distribute rice unsuitable for consumption. The storage facility was inspected following a tip-off.
Head of the Gampaha District Raids Unit, CAA, Pradeep Kaluthararachchi stated that they had dispatched 160 packs of rice to the Ratmalana Economic Centre on Monday evening.
He added that they pack the rice in 25 kilogrammes bags amidst cement dust. He staed that the police arrested three suspects and later released them on a bond
