All schools in an around Kosgama which were closed following the explosion at the Salawa Army Camp, were re-opened on Monday, June 13.
The Sri Lanka Army stated that the renovation activities of the Kosgama Hospital will be completed and went on to note that schools which were closed in the aftermath of the explosion were reopened. However, authorities noted that student attendance stood at 50 percent.
Many students attended school in casual attire. Over 500 people residing close to the Salawa Army Camp remain displaced due to the explosion. Meanwhile, Western Province Education Minister Ranjith Somawansa inspected the schools which were re-opened today.
Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera stated that the Sri Lanka Army will provide its fullest cooperation to restore and clean up damaged homes and business establishments in the area.
Furthermore, he added that the Criminal Investigations Department and Sri Lanka Army have launched their own independent investigations into the incident.
