Landslide warnings issued to the Kandy, Kegalle and Ratnapura Districts by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) are still in effect.
According to R.M.S. Bandara, Director of Landslide Research and Risk Management Division – NBRO, the landslide warning is in place for the area falling under the purview of the Ganga Ihala Korale Divisional Secretariat in the Kandy District and the Elpatha and Kuruwita Divisional Secretariats in the Ratnapura District.
He says the warning will continue to be in effect for the areas falling under the perview of the Deraniyagala, Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, Yatiyanthota, Bulathkohupitiya, Aranayake, Kegalle, Mawanella and Galigamuwa Divisional Secretariats in the Kegalle District.
He also requested the general public to be cautious of landslides, and breaking away of river banks during heavy spells of showers.
Director R.M.S. Bandara further noted that several areas still remain under the threat of landslides owing to rains experienced in recent days.
