Update: Three killed in Thalangama blast

Three persons, including two women, died as a result of a hand grenade explosion at a house located in Thalangama, Battaramulla.

A nine-year-old girl who also sustained severe injuries in the explosion is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National hospital.

One of the victims has been identified as a 43-year-old mother of 4 residing in the Bandarawatte area in Thalangama.

According to relatives of the deceased woman, who had been separated from her husband, she had sought help from an individual engaged in concocting charms, to reconcile her marriage.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the police with regard to these advances and the police had requested both parties concerned to be present at the Thalangama police station at 11 a.m.on Thursday.

According to the police, an individual had entered the victim’s house, while she was preparing to leave for the police station, and had detonated a hand grenade..

According to the police, the blast also claimed the lives of the victim’s aunt as well as the individual who detonated the bomb.
