The Presidential Palace was today declared open to the public, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President’s House in Colombo, was used by 29 governors and six presidents for their official duties and for residential purposes.
The palace, which was built during Dutch rule, was also used by British Governors Sir Fredrick North and General Sir Robert Brownrigg.
However, this is the first time the palace is being opened for public viewing.
A number of school children were given the opportunity to visit the palace today. During their visit, the students were also given the opportunity to interact with the President.
