Muslims in Sri Lanka will begin fasting tonight as the Grand Mosque announced the sighting of the new moon in several parts of the country.
Fasting, held from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan, is one of the five fundamental religious duties of Islam. It is a time of self-examination and increased religious devotion.
