Inhumane acts caused the untimely death of a leopard in the Norwood Estate.This is the second leopard to have been killed after falling into a trap in the last 48 hours.
Residents said this leopard had been snared since last night. They claim that by the time officers from the police and Wildlife Department arrived at the location, the leopard was dead.
A tense situation arose between residents and the officials, when the latter attempted to question those responsible for setting up the trap. Norwood Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, Minister of Wildlife, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said that a committee has been appointed to look into the deaths of leopards caused by human activities.
The Minister said that the committee will investigate the threats faced by these animals and will take measures to solve those issues
