Speaking at a conference in Colombo on Monday, April 25 Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, Anura Wijepala expressed the following views.
Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, Anura Wijepala stated that they plan to have major power plant additions to their system. First will be two into 250 megwatt power plant in Sampur, and the two into 300 megwatt coal power plant in Trincomalee.
Explaining further, he noted:
As for the CEB, it is best not to go for a coal power plant since it is very cumbersome to operate, difficult to get permits and environmental clearance. Therefore they should go to things like oil, gas etc. because they are cleaner , easy to control and it can shut down and powered up easily.
