At a ceremony organised to lay the foundation stone of the Southern Ocean Observatory at the Mirissa Fishing Harbour on Friday, journalists questioned General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, with regard to the May Day Rally.
With regard to the action that will be taken against the SLFP public representatives who do not take part in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party May Day rally, Minister Amaraweera stated that none of the SLFP members have informed of their failure to attend the Sri Lanka Freedom Party May Day Rally
He added that the party has made a decision to have the May Day rally of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and United People’s Freedom Alliance in Galle and if one does not attend this rally, and participates in another May Day rally, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee will discuss and take a decision.
When questioned about the participation of former President Rajapaksa, the General Secretary of the UPFA noted that an invitation has been extended to join the rally.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party today elaborated on its May Day rally which will take place in Galle. General Secretary of the SLFP Minister Duminda Dissanayake spoke to reporters at the party headquarters.
The General Secretary of the SLFP, Minister Duminda Dissanayake noted that a group in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party announced that they have not been’properly invited’ by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
“We have extended the invitation to attend the May Day rally”, said the minister who pointed out that such statements that have been made indicate that they do not want to be part of the journey of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. And it seems that they do not want to join with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party but are presenting excuses to not attend, or even to criticise it, he said.
“After the May Day rally, we will resort to several disciplinary measures”, warned the minister

Minister Duminda Dissanayake further stated that members of the Sri Lanka party must attend the May Rally of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. However, a former president and former chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party making statements that he was invited by another first, and that he would accept that invitation, is similar to insulting one’s own self.
“He knows the importance and value of the party”, charged the minister
The General Secretary of the SLFP also announced that a separate committee had been designated to appoint the electorate organisers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
General Secretary of the SLFP added that D.M. Jayaratne will chair this committee which will comprise of W.D.J. Seneviratne, A.H.M. Fowzie, Susil Premajayantha, Anura Priyadarshana , S.B. Dissanayake, Dr. Sarath Amunugama. Jagath Pushpakumara and Athauda Seneviratne – and this committee will look into requests forwarded for electorate organiser on Tuesday at the party headquarters.
