The first phase of the Sahanagama model village was vested with the public, under the auspices of Minister of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa on Friday. This is the second proposed housing scheme that was implemented under the re-commenced Gam Udawa housing campaign. The first phase of the housing project, which was launched in the Panegamuwa area in Tissamaharama, Hambantota consist of 25 houses.
Construction activities of the second phase of the model village commenced on Friday. Loans to upgrade 200 houses and 300 land deeds were presented today. In addition, 50 apprentices were enrolled for the construction engineering training.
Minister of Housing and Construction,Sajith Premadasa noted that following the passing of his father, the National Housing Policy was not strengthened and the project related to housing was given the ‘step-motherly treatment’.
“During the past, the then government continued to slander the name of my late father”, charged the minister who added that they tried to wipe out name of Premadasa from the Sri Lankan political dictionary and no government planned to create a village.
“We are not insincere persons. We will create villages under the names of all heads of states”, said the minister.
